He studied primary school, middle and high school at Ankara College. In his middle school years, he began to take his first photographs with Yashica 44, which was his father’s gift. His passion with photography continued in high school years with a 35mm Petri camera.

In 1974-75, he enrolled in Istanbul University, Journalism and Public Relations Academy where he graduated at 1978. During his studies he worked as a correspondent and photojournalist. While he was still a student, he started to work at Istanbul State Fine Arts Academy Cinema – TV Institute in 1977. He started in film processing laboratory and worked in different stages of cinema technical process.

In 1981, he moved to the advertising industry as a photographer at the Yorum Agency. He became the assistant of Ahmet Kayacık, whom was the best commercial photographer in 1984. The period of working with Kayacık was very important for his professional life.

In 1985, he established his first photography studio, Kare Fotograf with his two partners. In 1991, he was one of the partners of Profesyonel Fotograf Hizmetleri. He has been working in Serdar Tanyeli Fotograf Hizmetleri since 1997.

In 2002-04 and 2008-09, he gave photography lessons in Graphic Design Department of Mimar Sinan University Fine Arts Faculty. In Bahçeşehir University he gave classes on Advertising Photography in Photography and Video department for two years. Lately, he has been directing commercials.
